No More Cancer!!!

Dear Family,

Wally had an MRI 2 weeks ago and had a meeting with the surgeon who said it was clean. No signs of cancer and there would be no need for surgery at this time. Wally goes back in 3 months for a PET/CT scan. The next day we saw the oncologist who gave him the report of being in complete remission and cancer free status!!!

Wally had worked himself up into a bit of sickness before the reading of the results, probably nerves...it is a strange and wonderful feeling after so much that we've been through to have it just end like that....sort of left not knowing what to think or believe. But now it is time to pick up the pieces and start living...not our normal life. I am not sure life will ever seem quite the same and probably shouldn't be the same that put Wally into ill health. So here we are...ready to begin. It feels that I can for the first time sit and look back a bit on what just happened. Whew. The last thing medically that he has to do is have the port removed from his arm where they administered the chemo and hydration etc. And the final stretch of weening him from the pain meds. Which should be over in about 2 weeks or so. He has no signs of pain or open sores. His skin is looking healthier everyday and has quite a mop of hair now! Still thin, but is eating and has energy and feels good most of the time. In fact it is hard when he doesn't feel good, which luckily is not very often, but occasionally. What a relief to not be vomitting daily...I felt sick the other morning and felt so, so sorry for how he must have felt. It takes a lot of strength to get through this and the support we had from you and our friends is unbelievable and so, so important. I feel for people who go through this alone.

Forgive us for not contacting you all, but immediately after hearing from the oncologist we went to the desert where we met about 20 friends ( several from San Francisco area) who came out for the Joshua Tree Festival. Wally played Sat with 2 different groups. He had a great time and we loved having our friends around. Did a lot of BBQing and entertaining at our house. We had a couple who met at the Joshua Tree festival stay with us with their 2 1/2 month old baby. Lydia loved entertaining the "BABY" Rowen. She was quite aware he was in her crib and in her swing and on her mat....but didn't seem to mind.

So we are in Yucca Valley and enjoying it a lot. Not feeling such a need to be in Los Angeles and do not feel the pressure of needing a bigger place there now...So relaxing here. I haven't been working much and am trying to set up my office here in Yucca to get something done as new work comes up for the spa.

Love to you all,
Laurie Ingram
